Festive Fillies Walkabout 29th May 2010
|
Our club is assisting the Festive Fillies, a group of women from the South East, to run a ladies-only charity walking event on May 29th.
There will be a walk along the River Barrow from Borris to Graiguenamanagh and 4 different hill walks to choose from. You have to register in advance on www.festivefillies.com.
Each participant can raise money for the charity of their choice and the Blackstairs Ramblers has decided to support the Saplings school in Goresbridge (see www.saplings.org).
So come on ladies, get out the walking boots and help us raise some cash for this most deserving cause!

Trip to Scotland September 2010
|
Dick is organising a trip to Scotland, now planned for Friday September 24th to Monday 27th. The plan would be to fly to Glasgow on the Friday and return on Monday.
Each person would need to book their own flights. Transport will be arranged to the hotel which is located close to Loch Lomond.
The hotel costs £49.00 for bed, breakfast and dinner per night (3 nights, total cost £147 per person) and there will be a ceili on the Sunday night (so don’t wear out your feet on the hills, spare a little energy for dancing!).
Two guided A walks will be arranged in the area, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Anyone looking for a more leisurely walk will be spoilt for choice with forestry and Loch Lomond nearby and the West Highland Way just to the east of the village where we will be staying.
A deposit is required by the hotel so if you are interested in going, you need to pay Dick €50 before the end of April.
This trip is restricted to 20 places and about 14 people have already booked. To nab one of the remaining places, contact Dick as soon as possible to avoid disappointment! Also note that flights are very cheap if booked well in advance.
Prices for transport to/from the airport and to/from the starting points of the A walks will be worked out once exact numbers are known.

Mountain Spring Clean
|
A clean up is arranged annually as part of the national spring clean initiative. The date is to be announced, but it will be an evening in May.
Date will be announced here as soon as it is known. All volunteers welcome, note that as users of the hills it is important that we all give something back.
|
Navigation training
|
A navigation training has been held over the last couple of months, with three classroom based sessions and a session (still to be planned)
on the hills. All feedback from anybody who attended is welcome, since we have interest from other members and will be running the course again.
If you are interested in attending the next course, contact Mairead.

New start time for Thursday night walks
|
Note that at the last club meeting on February 11th it was decided to start Thursday night walks at 7.30pm rather than 7.45pm.

SEMRA Flag Day
|
The South East Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) hold one flag day annually to raise much needed funds.
Thanks to their dedication, help is always at hand should we ever need it. It is important to give something back by just
giving a couple of hours each year to help out at the flag day. This year the flag day will be held on Saturday March 27th.
If you are free to help even for an hour, please contact Mick.
